Let's Roll!

My family has reunions about every weekend in the summer (ok, maybe not THAT often, but it seems like it!). As you probably know, reunions are potluck and you B.Y.O.S. (bring your own silverware). I made these nifty little silverware rolls as an easy way to keep the silverware, napkins, and even the salt and pepper organized! I found the idea in Good Housekeeping, August 2009.

First, start with a dish towel.
Fold the bottom up about one third. Stitch one end of the towel closed. Next, fold a ribbon (3 feet long) in half; sandwich an inch of the ribbon's fold into the towel's other, unsewn end; sew together to form one large pocket.

Divide the pocket into four utensil-sized (about two inches) and one napkin-sized sections by sewing vertical lines along the pocket.
Then, to cover my stitching, I glued ribbon along the outside edges.

Check it out!!
The top folds down to cover the utensils and keep them from slipping out.

Roll it up, tie, and be on your merry way!!

Super easy! I gave it as a gift to Mom and Dad with a casserole dish with insulated carrying case, and a cookbook; the perfect family reunion combo!

I'm linking this to my favorite linky parties!

  3. Thanks, Shannon ... I was the lucky recipient of the silverware holder in our homemade Christmas (your idea) drawing. I'm putting it in my picnic basket that I take to all family reunions.

  4. I got my silverware roll out of the picnic basket today and took it to work with my brown bag lunch. Great idea for a neat and tidy lunch.
