Pillowcase Bag

Have you ever wondered what to do with those pillowcases you have left from unused sheet sets?  Make a bag!!  I found this tutorial at MarthaStewart.com and it was super easy!

I actually used a European sham case so I had to modify the tutorial just a little bit.  The sham was a perfect square so I just trimmed it down a little to make a rectangle.  Oh, and I found this DKNY sham at TJ Maxx that retails for $59.99 at Bed Bath & Beyond but I got it for $3.00 on clearance!

According to Martha, first trim 1/4 inch off the closed edge and cut in half diagonally.  Then, hem the cut edges.  I used a zig-zag stitch in contrasting thread to make it visually appealing.

Then, place one pillowcase half inside the other, lining up the bottom edges.  Pin and sew where the fabric overlaps on the diagonal.  Turn the bag inside out and hem the bottom.  Turn right side out and tie the top in a knot!

This was so fun and easy!  I can't wait to hit up Goodwill and get some more pillowcases!

  2. I can't wait to try this b/c I have a ton of pillowcases that I can use. For some reason, like socks in the dryer, in my house pillowcases seem to lose their mate.
