Displaying My Kids' Art!

My kids are always drawing/coloring pictures for Mike and me. Don't get me wrong, I love that they are creative and love art! We just don't have anywhere to display all of their wonderful creations... until now!

All you need is a yard stick, some clothespins, and a hot glue gun.

First, I evenly spaced out the clothespins and then glued them to the yardstick!

Next, I hung the yardstick in the hallway.

Then, I added some vinyl lettering (from Etsy seller, ModernVector) and finally, let the girls fill the clips with their pictures!

I love that they can change the pictures out whenever they want. There are always new and wonderful pieces of art to look at when people come to our house!

Wine & Canvas!

Project 12: Wine & Canvas
Total Time: 2 hours
Difficulty Level: Medium
Total Cost: $30

At the beginning of summer, a couple of friends and I decided to go to a Wine & Canvas night!

We started with a blank canvas...

...and a pretty plate of paints!

We had an instructor that gave us step-by-step directions on how to paint a "Dandelion Circus."

First we painted our sky blue.

Next, we painted the stems of our dandelions.

Then, we continued to add color layer by layer.

Last, we added grass.

Ta-da! Dandelion Circus!

It was a super fun night :-)

Art Show!

Last May, Jaden brought home a letter from school stating that she had pieces of her artwork on display downtown at the administrative building. I was so proud of her! She has come so far with her artwork and I know this will be her thing.

A lot of her friends had artwork there, too! It was fun to look around ans see all of the talented artists' works!  There are a lot of creative kids in our district

Taylor had fun posing in front of the giant logo :-)

I'm so excited to see what her artwork looks like this school year. In fact, yesterday she pulled her school folder out and asked me, "Do you know what's missing?"  Um... no... She said that the other kids brought their art projects home but she didn't because it was hung up! Way to go, Jaden!

71 Projects: Owl Art

Project 10: Owl Art
Total Time: 30 minutes
Difficulty Level: Easy
Total Cost: $0

The girls have their own bathroom. It is a fairly good size and is a great space for them! The previous home owners left their shower curtain and honestly, it looked very nice! I just wanted something a little more colorful and cuter for the girls.

I went to a friend's house and saw that she had an adorable owl shower curtain in her bathroom! It was perfect for what I was looking for for the girls.

It matched the existing wall color perfectly!  The only problem was that it made the rest of the bathroom seem very bare.  The wall space between the mirror and the shower curtain now looked huge!

I decided to make a little artwork to hang there!  I went to my craft room and gathered some papers that matched the colors in the shower curtain.

Next, I traced one of the owls.

Then, from that tracing, I traced each individual shape and then cut them out.

I used the cut-outs as templates to trace onto the paper I chose to match the shower curtain.

After I had all of my pieces traced and cut out, I glued them to white cardstock.

Then, I wrote a couple of reminders for the girls, framed them, and hung them in the bathroom!

I LOVE the way they look! They are the perfect space filler for that wall.

In case you were wondering, I did make some for my friend that has the same shower curtain :-)  Thanks, Kalie!

Shanterest: Designing 800

Day 17: Design

As a profession, I'm a graphic designer.  No, I don't like my job. I do, however, like design. I appreciate good design.  I like getting ideas and inspiration from Pinterest.  I like finding awesome pieces and creating them myself.

Here are a couple of design ideas that I fell in love with:

I had fun recreating these pieces for myself.  I am not going to give them to you or sell them in my Etsy store because, well, I pretty much copied them spot on.  I'm pretty good at that because, well, that's what I do... design, not copy.

BUT, inspired my the idea of using lyrics in design, I did make my own, using my favorite line from my favorite song.

I am listing this print in my Etsy store.  Because this very post happens to be my 800th post, I'm offering all of my blog readers 50% off anything in my Etsy store for the remainder of the month!  Enter the coupon code: FALL50 at checkout for the discount!  Not valid on private listings, sorry.

Thanks in advance and HAPPY 800 DAY :o)
