Thanksgiving Traditions

How can we be at the end of November already?  Fall is flying by!

Tonight is Fort Wayne's annual Downtown Holiday Fest.  We are hoping to go downtown tonight to see Santa get lit!  Hopefully the rain will hold off.  Along with the lighting of Santa, there is also the tree lighting and the wreath lighting on Calhoun Street.  Then, there is a fireworks show at Parkview Field.  How cool would it be to see fireworks while it is snowing?!  That's what I'm hoping for!

Thanksgiving is tomorrow!  What makes Thanksgiving so neat is the traditions.  Everybody has a favorite!  For Mike, it's the dumplings at his Gramma Ina's house.  Mike looks forward to this meal all year.  He couldn't care less about everything else as long as he has a huge plate of mashed potatoes topped with even more dumplings.  On Thanksgiving, I absolutely have to have a dish of Gramma Pat's cranberry sauce mixed with applesauce.  The combination is the perfect mix!  The trick is to have just a little more cranberry relish than applesauce.  SO good!  At Ina's, I'm looking forward to her candied sweet potatoes.  They are SO GOOD!  So you see, we can not pick one family to visit on this holiday.  We go to Ina's at lunch time and then head to Garrett for dinner leftovers.  It's perfect!

Jaden is excited to wear her turkey dress!  I altered it a little to take some of the bulk out underneath her arms and cut some length off.  It is still super cute and hopefully it will fit her a little better.  I also made Taylor a little jumper with a turkey on it.  Check back tomorrow to see the final product of both dresses!

Another Thanksgiving tradition that has developed over the years is the girls' overnighter at Gramma Karen's.  After we leave Garrett, we drop the girls off with Mike's parents.  It used to be because we both worked super early on Black Friday.  Last year I used the day to paint our kitchen counter tops.  This year I am planning on crawling out of bead and heading out into the crowds of crazies to get some good deals.  I know, I'm nuts.  Especially considering the line to CHECK OUT at JoAnn's last year was over 2 hours long!  Ugh... Maybe I'll go there tonight and gather my goodies and hide them somewhere in the store so I can speed through on Friday morning... It may work.

Speaking of Black Friday, I'm going to offer a huge, gigantic discount for my readers at my Etsy store!  I haven't added items for quite a while, saving for this day.  I can assure you there will be lots of goodies and awesome deals for you guys!  As always, if you live near me and would like to buy something from my store, let me know and we can work something out outside of Etsy since I won't be shipping to you.  So, be sure to stop by on Friday for a great discount!

What are your favorite traditions for the coming holiday weekend?

I'm so excited that tomorrow is Thanksgiving, it's my favorite day of the year! My husband has to go in and work nights this week, starting Thurs. Yuck right? I'll sure miss snuggling with him, it'll be our first night away from each other... is that silly of me? :( so what is candied sweet potatoes? It sounds delish! Have fun at your festivities tonight, our big holiday kick off parade & fireworks is on Dec 4th, I can't wait!

I am cracking up about your plan to hide things. Can you imagine if everyone did that?! Obvious? Nah. Hehehehehe!

The trick to Joann's is to tag-team. First, when you go in, grab a ticket. Then, have your partner (I drug my husband in) stand in the checkout line. If he gets to the front first, he can just let people in front of him. Last year, we were in and out in 45 minutes.

Good luck! :)
