Houston, we have a frickin' PROBLEM

Ok, the whole wildlife sanctuary thing may have been a little funny in the beginning, but NOT ANYMORE.  Last night, I thought... I don't even know what I thought.  I was scared.  A frickin' raccoon was outside our front window.  Jude about had a blessed heart attack!!  That cat has some mad cheetah instincts, I tell you!  He was making sounds that I have never heard him make before.  He was in the front bay window and the curtains were pulled closed.  I was scared to open them for fear I might startle him and get attacked.  The weather is supposed to be GREAT this week and I want to take the girls outside.  I don't want J to get attacked by a scared raccoon living in/under our shed.  I was looking on the Web for suggestions because all anyone will tell me when I ask for serious help or advise it to grab a bat.  Sorry, bludgeoning a scared (albeit annoying) animal to death is not my style.  I also can't go the live trap route because then I'm stuck with a GD trapped live animal!  So, to the internets I go!  Here is what he told me:

Check your property regularly to make sure that screens barring entrance into your home, basement or crawlspace is intact. Lock dog and cat doors at night and place ammonia stations in front of the locked door. Regular household ammonia stations can be placed around your yard in the areas frequented by raccoons. Take a shallow dish or bowl, place a rag in it and pour ammonia over the rag until completely saturated. Place enough ammonia in the dish so the rag will continue to wick the ammonia up through the night. Avoid lawn areas, as ammonia will burn grass.

If a raccoon should establish himself under your house, place a radio near his nesting place and keep it on loud during the day. That wouldn't be annoying to the neighbors in the least bit! Locate all entrances and exits. Block them off except for one and use repellents or frightening strategies to encourage the raccoon to leave. To be certain the animal has departed, sprinkle flour at the exit and watch for footprints that lead away from the opening. When the raccoon leaves to begin his nightly hunting (usually two hours after sunset) block the remaining entrance. I'm going to look like a flippin' idiot.  People will surely talk.  What's that, you ask?  OF COURSE I will document the whole process! Duh.

The only long-term, permanent means of coping with troublesome opossums is to exclude them from areas where you do not want them. Opossums are wanderers, and if you see one in your yard, he is probably just passing through.  They favor dens on the ground, which can lead them to take up residence under decks and in crawlspaces. While female opossums spend their lives in more defined areas, the male opossum may wander continuously.

When confronted, opossums often bare their teeth and hiss. While they may look fierce, they generally are non-aggressive and shy. Rather than fight, when hard pressed they will sometimes slip into the death-feigning catatonia that we term "playing possum." The animal's system reacts automatically, throwing the brain and nervous system into a catatonic state that lowers their heartbeat and respiration. Oh, please let THIS happen to me...

Hand-sized motion detectors (usually combined with bright lights) and alarms, intended for indoor use, can be used in crawlspaces or, with proper protection from the weather, in some outdoor situations.  When an opossum is known to be denning under a porch or patio, place a radio near where the opossum is nesting and keep it on loud during the day. Seriously, no OTHER options?? When the animal leaves for her nightly foray (two hours after dark is generally a safe time), locate all entrances and exits, blocking all except one. Loosely close this last opening with netting, straw or another fibrous material than an animal trapped inside can push away, but one on the outside will be less likely to disturb to get back in. To be certain the animal has left, sprinkle flour (good grief) at the exit and watch for footprints that lead away from the opening. When you are sure the opossum is gone, securely close the opening.

So, that is where I stand right now.  Heaven help me...

Welcome to the McClure Wildlife Sanctuary

Those of you that follow me on Facebook already know that I had a frightful encounter with a opossum.  I've kept my eyes peeled but have yet to see him again.  On Saturday, we were getting ready to go to the mall and I had to go back inside to print a coupon when I see a raccoon scaling our fence!  I watched him make his way across the yard and take shelter at our shed!  We have an old dog house connected to our shed.  The previous owner of our house attached it and cut out an opening.  The opening has been boarded off BUT the door doesn't stay closed.  I've yet to check, but there may or may not be families of wildlife living in there.  *shiver*  The opossum was under the shed.  Again, I've yet to go out there and crouch down to see if there is anything actually residing under the shed... I don't want them to jump out and scratch my eyes out!

Seeing as I'm too scared to actually go out there and investigate, I'm taking volunteers!

Speaking of wildlife, here's what my girls were up to this weekend :o)
She likes to peek over the top of her crib... we play peek-a-boo :o)

Not crawling yet but doing an awful lot of "swimming"!!

Good girl reward: PLAY-DOH!

Our new babysitter: Jude

T was really eyeing those fish sticks!  This was her first ride in the shopping cart!

So, What's Up?

Mr. Ferd only has three legs... actually he still has four but if he keeps laying in the middle of the kitchen when I'm trying to work my magic (aka cook), he might end up with only three... and no tail.  MOVE FERD!

She gave it up!  Her paci is gone forever so she got to eat MY Valentine's Day chocolate that SHE gave ME!  Actually, she lost her paci at the babysitters.  If she could only remember back to that day, she would realize that she, Jaden, put the darn thing back in the diaper bag HERSELF (duh, kid).  According to Miss J, paci is still lost.  "Hello, my name is Jaden and I'm a paciholic.  I've been clean for seven days."  "Hi Jaden."

Lori and I gave ourselves facials :o)  They were chocolate scented too!!  I didn't even break out afterwards!

Jaden joined a baby gang.  She tells me that she isn't going to get a teardrop tattooed under her eye anytime soon so I guess I don't need to be worried.

Oh, and I just missed my mouth... I was kinda thrown off guard by the coldness of my coffee.

Yes, that is totally the teal butterfly shirt.  We made up and she decided that when paired with a scoop neck cami, our hearts become one.  Yea!

That's it.  I'm giving girl's night/Muncie another shot this weekend.  Last time I had these exact same plans, we spent the night in the ER... knock on wood!

2010!?!? Seriously?

I really can not believe it is '10! This is the beginning of the (oh.my.god.) FOURTH decade I have lived in! That doesn't seem right considering I'm only going to be 28 (in 8 days!), but I was born in the 80s, obviously lived in the 90s and the ots (is that what they're called?), now I'm alive and well in the 10s! Good grief, Charlie Brown! Well, since almost all of my blog buddies have done this, I feel it is my DUTY as a blogger to present to you, my favorite photos of the year 2009!!

Smiling All Weekend Long!

I had a great weekend! Jaden spent the night at Mom and Dad's on Friday night. Mike and I went to dinner at Buffalo Wild Wings with Nix. Then, Mike and Nix spent the evening playing Wii while I cozied up in bed with Ty and started My Sister's Keeper. It was nice to have a night off from being "Mom" and just able to relax.

Saturday morning I slept in until about 8, then got around and went to Vera Bradley. The radio said there was about a 30 minute wait to get into the coliseum but when I got there (seriously like 10 minutes after they said that), I was in the second wind-around by Parnell!! I stood in line for an hour before facing the quilted-bag-grabbing mobs of sweaty obese women. It was "fun"! I got a diaper bag that originally sells for $95 for $25!!! I also got another Handbag, a Backsack, and a cute little wallet purse! Overall I only spent $100 but saved well over $200! I had to wait about an hour to check out. When I was leaving, there was NO line to get in, but the line to check out was 3 HOURS LONG!!! My legs were aching yesterday!

Yesterday was spent outside. We started the day off by going grocery shopping. After that, I went to Lowe's and got some pots, dirt, and seeds for my "garden". I got tomatoes and peppers planted :o) HOPEFULLY I'll be able to grow SOMETHING! I feel like I did in kindergarten when we got a little styrofoam cup with a bean seed in it. I was so excited when I saw that first little green sprout! I went to water my little seeds and when I turned the hose on, I saw water immediately start coming out under the siding. I turned the water off (it was only on for like 3 seconds) and ran down to the basement. Sure enough, it looked like we had a rain storm! Luckily it was only in the unfinished part. I called Gramps and he said it shouldn't be a problem to fix. We are thinking that the pipe froze and broke during the ice storm last December. Normally, this event would've caused Mike and me to go into a furious panic but our day was going too well!! We just laughed a little about the thought of a cat in the litter box when it started "raining" in the basement, cleaned up the flood, and went back outside! I grabbed the watering can and hydrated my veggie babies! Before all of this drama, Mike and I decided that it would be a good idea to pull out the bushes by the shed. Carpenter bees like to swarm them... WELL, those bushes weren't going to budge! We dug and pulled until we were both sweating and out of breath. All we had to show for it was some broken twigs and scratched up arms and legs. By then, the dumb bush looked horrible from trying to pull it from the ground, so we both just started hacking away! We ended up cutting the thing off at the ground :o) The second bush is still there. We were too tired to tackle that one! The yard is looking good! We still have plans to edge the patio... maybe this weekend.

Sunday night, we went to Pizza King, then to the park to play, then to Zesto! Needless to say, Jaden was worn out last night! After her bath, she hit the sheets hard and was OUT! Mike and I were close behind!

Ty is doing good! We are giving him lots of attention and keeping Jaden from chasing him. We are also rewarding him with Turkey when he goes a day without peeing outside of his box. I'm going to cancel the vet appointment and just take it day by day. I think he has anxiety issues and was feeling neglected. We give so much attention to Jaden for obvious reasons. Jude is such a lovey-dovey cat that it is hard to ignore him. Plus he likes J! Ty just seemed to keep to himself and we thought he liked that. Apparently not... We've changed things and hopefully he'll be around for a while now :o)

My Tie-Up Date... What???

Hehe... How about My Ty Update:

I was the first to get home last night and I immediately went downstairs to see if Ty made any messes. He didn't!! I rewarded him with a piece of turkey and some lovin'. The night before, Mike had went downstairs for one reason or another and found a fresh puddle of pee on the couch. Luckily for us, we have a leather couch down there and so it couldn't soak into the cushion. He was perfectly fine until Mike got home with Jaden. As soon as she came in, he got all fidgety and went to the basement. Mike followed him and caught him up on the couch sniffing around. As soon as Ty saw Mike, he darted off to the litter box. SO, I think Jaden is the problem. She loves her kitties so much and loves to PLAY with them. Jude puts up with her an kind of plays along. Ty wants nothing to do with her. I think he is jealous of her and so is now rebelling and peeing on stuff. He is in the house by himself (well, with Jude) all day and we never have a problem. He has never done anything in the evenings when it is just Mike and me. The only time we have issues is when Jaden is running wild. I had a talk with Jaden and told her she had to be nice to Ty and just kind of let him be. Maybe if we give him more attention and keep Miss away from him, he'll be ok. I'm still taking him to the vet though JUST to make sure nothing is wrong.

The "V" Word

VERA, that is!

Mom and I went to the Vera Bradley outlet sale last night and I can say that I was only a teeny bit disappointed. In the past, the Wednesday sale is GREAT because it is for Friends of the Foundation only. Last year I was able to get a great deal on a new print late in the day because the crazies hadn't been there yet. This year, the selection seemed to be a little picked over by the time we got there. I was able to get the Handbag (my one and only style) in Peacock! I've been wanting this bag in this print for a while now but haven't been able to get there early enough. I was hoping to get Bali Gold or even Raspberry Fizz, but I am very happy with what I did get! The Handbag is regularly $50 and I got it for $20... great deal!!

The million dollar find of the day was the Placemat in Puccini!! There was only ONE left on the table (who wants just one placemat??) but I grabbed it anyway, hoping to come across a second. WELL, Mom and I are expert dumpster divers ;o) and she quickly found not just one more, but three!! So, I had in my possession a set of four! But, my table would look way to busy with four crazy placemats so I ended up just buying two. We saw a woman wandering with one in her hands so Mom gave her the two I didn't want. She just kind of eyed the two in my hand and complained because now she needed one more... uh, you're welcome? The look VERY nice in my kitchen... just wait until we move :o) Placemats are regularly only $12 but I got them for $5 each! Awesome awesome :o)

We are going back on Sunday to buy more fun stuff. The first day is just to get that ONE thing you KNOW won't be there on Sunday. Sunday is when the deals are really good. I definitely saw a lot that I wanted yesterday but know they will be there on Sunday.

Jaden had a hard time sleeping last night. She kept waking up. She didn't cry or anything... actually she was laughing! I think she just couldn't get into a deep sleep. Of course, when Jaden doesn't sleep, neither does Mom. I was exhausted this morning. I hit the snooze button twice and ended up sleeping 20 minutes over! Then of course Jaden wants to get up when I finally start getting around. Usually she will just get out of bed and walk to our bedroom to watch cartoons. This morning she didn't quite know what she wanted. She didn't want to get out of bed, but she didn't want me to leave. If I didn't work, I would've just crawled into bed with her and cuddled until we both fell back asleep. Unfortunately I was already running late and REALLY needed to get my butt in gear! She eventually decided cartoons sounded good and crawled into bed with Dad. Now I was a whole half hour behind! I only had a half hour to get ready... I got dressed, brushed my teeth, and curled my hair. That was it! Anyone who knows me KNOWS that I don't ever go a day without makeup. I grabbed it all and threw it into a bag, along with some leftovers from the fridge and headed out the door. I zipped through Arby's drive-thru for a nice healthy breakfast and was on my way! I managed to avoid EVERYONE at work until I was safe in my office and able to finally put my face on! I definitely need to start going to bed earlier...

We are having issues with Ty again. It breaks my heart to think that we need to get rid of him :o( He is peeing in the basement. Luckily it's only been ON things that we can get rid of. He still goes in his litter box, but sometimes he just doesn't. It's only in the basement though. I'm taking him to the vet on Monday to see if there is anything medically wrong with him. If there isn't, we need to find him a new home :o( I think that since we got him when he was a cat instead of a kitten, and since he was a stray before we had him, he just can't get used to home living. I think he has issues with Jude and Jaden. He is a GREAT cat and so well behaved... I just think that he would be better off in a home with no kids or other pets, and with people that are home more often. My heart is seriously broken in a million pieces. He is part of our family and we all love him more than words. Hopefully the vet will tell us he has some kind of UTI or something and a little medicine will make him back to normal. I just have a bad feeling though... Whatever the situation, the outcome will be incredibly hard on all of us.

On a happier note, I have to blog this because she probably won't... Mom dropped another pants size!! Congrats Mom!! You look GREAT! Now, show us those pants pictures :o)

OH!! How could I forget Idol last night?? I was seriously out of my chair dancing when Adam Lambert was in the bottom two! He is such a cocky sonuvagun... serves him right! Hopefully we'll have Danny and Allison in the finals and not Sir Screams-a-lot.

Even Cats Have a Special Day!

Happy 7th birthday, Mr. Ty!!

It's hard to believe we've had Ty for 4 years! Ty was sort of our unplanned baby :o) Mike and I went to Petco on April 15th, 2005 to get Jude litter. We stopped to look at the cats up for adoption, like we did every time we went there. Ty was the only cat among a bunch of kittens. We walked up to the glass and he immediately stood up, stretched, and put his little paw on the glass. He has held our hearts on his little paw since that moment. We asked if we could hold him and when we were taken back to the room to do so, he stretched both of his front legs around my neck like he was hugging me :o) We got the adoption papers, wrote the check and picked him up the next day! It was hard at first... Jude wasn't too happy about us bringing another cat home and didn't quite understand that we actually did it for HIM! They were enemies for a little while. Then came the surgery!! We took Ty to get him claws removed from ALL FOUR PAWS at the SAME TIME! What on earth were we thinking?!?! Poor baby! The vet did recommend it since he was already 3 years old. He didn't want to have to put him under twice. So we brought him home and SUFFERED through hurt paws, going to the bathroom in various corners of the apartment out of anger toward us, and howling in the bathroom all night long because he was locked up. Just when we thought things were getting better, he develops a sensitive stomach and had horrible diarrhea episodes. We had to buy outrageously expensive food for him "problem." BUT, eventually, Ty got better and Jude started to like him. Now, "brothers" are inseparable! We all love Ty :o)

Jaden blowing out Ty's birthday candle.

She wondered where her "cake" was!

Ty enjoying his chicken flavored birthday "cake." Don't worry, Jude got some too :o)

Jaden wanted to get in on the picture taking, too!

Blogworthy

Wow! I am in love!! Gramps introduced me to a dressing a while back called, Virginia Brand Vidalia Onion Vinegarette. I never could find it at Kroger or Scott's but knew that he got it at Sam's Club. I finally sent Mike to get it for me about a month ago. It has sat in my fridge since then because it really hasn't been salad weather. Well, today I brought a salad to work for lunch and it was SO good! Then, I had some left over so I used it as a dip for pretzels.... HEAVENLY!!! I'm going to try it as a marinade on chicken this week. I'm HOOKED!

The curse of threes is back! This one is funny though... not bad like mom's "terrible, horrible, no good, very bad days." Take a second to look at Laura's and Dad's blog... they both had a little encounter with wildlife this weekend... and so did we!! Technically our encounter was with domesticated wildlife, but nonetheless. Yesterday while Jaden was napping, Mike and I were cutting coupons and deciding on our dinner menu for the week (fingers crossed, Mom) when all of a sudden, Ty starts going nuts!! We look out the window and see that there is a black cat coming through the fence from our neighbor's yard. Ty is acting like he is about to jump through the window and attack this cat! We try to wake Jude up and point out the cat to him. He had no idea what we were pointing at (why can't cats follow pointing??) but knew that brother was pretty upset about SOMETHING! So, Jude picks his big 'ol booty up off the couch and goes over to console Ty and Ty starts meowing and hissing! The cat goes behind our shed and Ty takes off sprinting through the house to try to see it. Dumb cat goes to the front window :o) Haha!! He finally comes back and by this time, Jude has spotted the stray. They are BOTH sitting on the same TINY little corner of the couch, bumping heads (they looked like they were playing that hand stacking game with their heads... you know, the one where one person puts their hand on top of yours and then you pull your hand from the bottom and put it on top and so on...), trying to get a look at this oblivious cat whom has now laid in the mulch for a little cat nap. Jude and Ty were NOT going to take their eyes off of that cat until it left! Needless to say, Mike and I lost interest before they did and went to the store (after Jaden woke up). They weren't in the same spot when we got back so I can't tell you how it ended.

Ok, uncrossing fingers (which, by the way, means I have something I want to say but don't want to lose my train of thought)... A while back, Mom and I went together and bought a Bind It All machine. It is a nifty scrapbooking tool that allows you to punch and bind books. It's pretty cool what can be done with it! Well anyway, I made a grocery list notebook this weekend! (You'll be SO jealous, Kelly!) Kelly gave me the genius idea of making a categorized grocery list so you can find things faster in the store. I took it one step further and actually mapped out Scott's at Dupont. I have a different section for each aisle. It make shopping with a toddler SO EASY! I printed off about 100 lists and made a VERY cute cover, complete with a pocket for coupons, and bound it all with our nifty little machine! We gave it a shot on Sunday and it was AMAZING! I didn't have to use a box of pasta to support my list as I crossed thing off. The ONLY think I need to tweak is the whole pen situation. I'm going to attach one with a ribbon so I don't have to shove it in my back pocket. It was GREAT though :o) We didn't forget a single thing!!

Overall, our weekend was great! I didn't get much done with baby's room on Saturday though. BUT, you better believe that while Jaden was napping on Sunday (before the whole cat fiasco), I went out shopping for girl room stuff!! I'm SO excited to have two little pig-tailed cuties running around the house!! It's so hard to really get into doing the room with Jaden undoing everything I get done. I may just need to take a day off work ;o) It is coming along though and I know I do still have PLENTY of time :o) Which reminds me, we are selling our Foosball table... anyone interested??

Happy Monday!!
