Talkin' Turkey

I had a vision... I wanted to make the girls matching turkey dresses to wear on Thanksgiving.  Have you seen the pillowcase dresses people make?  Well, I wanted to use that concept but make it out of fleece.  So I went shopping for like a gazillion different colors of fleece and got to work creating turkey dresses!

Typically, you'd start out with a pillowcase but since I wanted these to be fleece, I had to basically make my own pillowcase first.

Next, I cut arm holes and folded over the top to run a ribbon through.

Ta-da! Fleece pillowcase dress!
Now, at this point, I HIGHLY recommend trying the silly thing on your little girl just to make sure it fits... Some of us skipped this step...

Then, cut out a pattern for your turkey.

Next, cut the pieces of fleece!  Don't forget to cut pieces for the back!

Pin and sew.

Then, thread your ribbon through the top, drawstring-style.

Ain't she purdy?!

J's favorite part, "turkey BUTT!"

And here she is in all her glory... just a little big...

It's just a little bulky in the underarm area.  Had I tried it on her BEFORE I sewed Ms. Turkey on, I would have made it skinnier.  BUT, she promised me she would wear it on Thanksgiving.  On a positive note, it will fit her perfectly NEXT year :o)

Now, if I could just find the time to make something turkey-like for Taylor...

Linking this gobbly goodness to all of these parties!

You truly are super mom! I love this. Can you make a mini one for Taylor? Or maybe just a t-shirt one? I want one for Grace.

I was thinking you should make more and sell them but then it might be too late since Thanksgiving is next week. You could do Christmas shirts.

I'm looking forward to American Thanksgiving - I'm going to have turkey too, with those pumpkin chocolate chip bars I made for Canadian Thanksgiving.
