Fun with a Glue Gun: Crafty Mama Strikes Again!

Amidst my house cleaning extravaganza this weekend, I decided to dive into a couple of Crafty Mama projects. This project is called "The Better Bolder Wipey Holder!" I knew I definitely wanted to make one for Taylor but was hesitant to make one for Jaden because I don't anticipate her being in diapers for much longer. BUT, I quickly changed my mind when I saw in my Crafty Mama book that it can be used as a jewelry box (or whatever box) when you don't need it as a wipe box anymore! So, here is The Better Bolder Wipey Holder step by step (ooh baby -- Couldn't resist the NKOTB song there...)

Center wipe box on top of a piece of fabric (facing wrong side up) and trace around the bottom of the box (A).

Turn the box up on its back carefully and trace around the side (B).

Turn the box again and trace the lid of the box (C).

Place the box back in the center (A), and turn it up on its front. Trace around the side of the box (D).

Then bring the box back to the center (A) and onto the other two sides and trace them too (E and F).

Remove the box from the fabric and add about an inch to the end of sides D, E, and F.

Cut the fabric along the outside of the perimeter of the shape.
Squeeze a line of hot glue on the perimeter of the bottom of the box, and press it onto the wrong side of the fabric section A. Pull and smooth out the fabric to make sure there are no creases or buckles.

Squeeze a line of hot glue along the perimeter of the box side that corresponds to fabric section E. Pull fabric section E up to meet the side of the box and press it into place, tucking the top of the fabric under the top edge of the box.

Repeat on the opposite side of the box (corresponding to fabric section F) and then the front side (corresponding to fabric section D).

Squeeze a line of hot glue around the perimeters of the side and top of the box (which should correspond to fabric sections B and C), one side at a time. Pull the fabric up along the back and top of the box and press it down, making sure it is smooth and tight.
Measure and cut a piece of ribbon one inch longer than the distance around the top of the box. Measure and cut four pieces of trim to run along the vertical edges of the wipe box (without adding additional length.
Squeeze a line of glue along one vertical edge and press one of the short pieces of ribbon trim against it, covering up the fabric seams. Repeat on each remaining vertical edge.
Squeeze a line of glue around the perimeter of the top of the box, one side at a time, and attach the ribbon trim, covering the fabric edge.
Accent the box with embellishments to match the fabric and.......
TA-DA!!
This one is for Taylor's room!
Next, I did one in the wonderful Vera Bradley print I've used throughout Jaden's room...
She LOVED it!! She wanted to play with it immediately. I had to explain to her that it was just her wipes... then she wanted me to change her diaper so she could use it :o)
NOTE on the one for Jaden, I got the store brand wipes and the box lid is NOT hinged. It turned out fine but if you want a lid that hinges, make sure you get a name brand box of wipes. Also, you need to know that you can no longer use the pop-top lid.
Now go out and make a Better Bolder Wipey Holder!!
