Baby, you're a firework!

As I'm sure most of you do, I have Monday off work for the 4th of July.  I am looking forward to hanging out with my girlies, my BFF, and her son.  Our guys are going to a party with beer and cuss words.  We have the day perfectly planned out and are heading to a cookout after the kiddos take a nap.  I'm sure it will be a great day and we will have lots of fun!  My only beef: It's a MONDAY.  Yes, we do get the day off of work, but we also have to go in the next day.  I really don't have a problem doing that, but my girls?  Yeah, they will be bears the next morning!  It is hard enough getting everyone up and out the door on time when they are in bed by 8:00.  How on earth am I supposed to wake them from their hibernation and be out the door by 6:55 in the morning if they don't even get into bed until closer to 11?  Coincidentally, my PTO days are renewed on July 1st.  Would it be horrible for me to take some time on Tuesday morning to let my kids sleep?

This kind of falls along the same lines as the Superbowl.  There was a lot of debate on whether or not it was ok for parents to let their kids stay home from school on the Monday following the Superbowl.  In this instance, I say no.  I think it is a little different (maybe) because I don't have boys, but if I can remember correctly, my brother and I never got "personal days" when we were in school.  We were expected to go to school unless we were ill.  Oh, and I did go to work on the Monday after the Superbowl.

So, what do you think?  Are there any other moms out there that are calling in on Tuesday morning due to cranky kids?  Am I in the wrong or do you totally agree?

I will not be calling in on Tuesday. I'm not allowed, actually, or I won't get paid for the holiday. I don't know how I feel about my girls taking a "personal day", probably because I didn't ever do it as a kid. They get personal days on Saturday and Sunday anyway. In fact, every day is a personal day when I consider the fact that her ONLY resposibility is school and keeping her room clean.

It sure would be nice to be able to take the 5th off- or at least go in late. All for freedom- right? I LOVE 4th of July and definetly plan to celebrate- but since the kids are on summer vacation- they automatically have a personal day- sooo unfair! It's so hot and dry here in central TX we don't get to pop OR watch fireworks- nothing- so maybe we won't be up as late as we usually would be. sucks.... Hope you have a great 4th!

I also think we should have the 5the 5th off. I would def. take some time so they don't have to get up too early! Nobody has to deal with the cranky ones but you! I will be letting my boys sleep. Good luck! Have a great 4th!

It's too bad you couldn't get a one day babysitter to greet them when they wake up after being asleep a bit longer.... I would just take them to the sitters in PJ's. Save your paid days off for illnesses and emergencies and vacations to Seattle.

I have to work the night of the 4th so unfortunately I won't even get to make that decision! :( Have fun lady!

I'm not a mom (unless two chihuahuas count), but I definitely have an opinion. PTO is your benefit for you to utilize as permitted within the parameters of your job. So, if you have it and can use it, that's your decision and it's your choice when to use it. Have a happy fourth, and if sleeping in a couple hours Tuesday will make your holiday more enjoyable, then do it!
