Back in the Swing of Things

I started back to work last Monday. Part of me was happy to be back but another part of me was sad to realize that another woman would be spending more time with my girls than I would. She will get to see them smile and hear them laugh all day while I get to sit in front of a computer doing work I never pictured myself doing (and not in a "wow! I never thought I'd get the chance to do this!" kind of way). Jaden loves going to the babysitter's house! Taylor is too young to know any different yet, but she doesn't cry all day so that has to say something. Jaden looks forward to going there and playing with her friends. I know they are in good hands. I don't worry about that one bit. I know TONS of people leave their kids at a sitter's house or daycare during the day while they trot off to work. I accept that this is how it has to be, but I don't have to be 100% thrilled about it.

My job is a job. I work and should be thankful for that... especially with so many people losing their jobs. I just wish I liked it more. I don't HATE it, but it is not what I went to school everyday for. Anyone could do what I do. I want to create things that WOW people! I want to be asked, "how did you do that?!?" I don't want to drop signatures onto forms. I don't want to copy text from a Word document and paste it into a publishing program. I want an actual desk, not two banquet tables pushed together. Someday I'll be able to work my dream job!

One thing I am very pleased with is the way we have all fallen into a routine. Mike wakes up to feed Taylor in the night. I get up at 5:30 to get ready for work. I dress Taylor and take her to the sitter's at 7:00, then am at work before 7:30. Mike wakes up at 7:30 to get around for work. He dresses Jaden and takes her to the sitter's at 8:30 and is at work before 9:30. I pick the girls up after work at 4:30. We go home, unpack their bag, and re-pack it for the next day. I pack my lunch for the next day and set my coffee pot timer for the next morning. I then start dinner while Jaden plays and Taylor snoozes for a bit. Mike it home by 5:30. We eat dinner at 6:00 and Taylor eats around 6:30. I feed Taylor and Mike clears the dinner table. We all hang out together until 8:00 baths. Jaden is in bed at 8:30 and Taylor gets PJs on and ready for her last bottle at 9:30-10:00. She goes down for bed and I shower. Then Mike and I FINALLY get to relax and watch some TV together before we head to bed around 11:00 (if not before)... lather, rinse, repeat! It's a busy, busy life! Mike and I talk a lot about our past. We remember times when we would sleep until 9:00 before going to class for a few hours. We'd then come home and hang out until work at 4:00. After work (on the weekends), we'd come home and get ready to go out with friends. And we thought life was crazy then!! Sometimes I wish I could peek into the future to see what lies ahead...

I'm glad you have found a routine that works. Taking the girls to the babysitter, although sometimes hard for you, is truly a wonderful thing for them. Marissa has been at a babysitter since she was 6 weeks old, and as you know, she is a well adjusted young lady. Not only that, but she has other adults that she trusts and cares for, not to mention fun little friends!

Have you given any more thought to the possible career change we discussed Saturday?

those pre-kid days are fun to look back on, and sometimes sad to think that you'll prob NEVER get to sleep in that late or just randomly stay out all night because you want to! At least we know that the kids are worth the other things that we give up. I went back to school about 4 weeks ago and have had to send my baby (13 month old) to a sitter, it breaks my heart!

Sounds like you guys are living one busy life! I hope some day I can be an amazing mamma like you!
